Cables work under constant tension with the spring system — 5 Star Garage Door Service checks the full assembly, not just the visible fray point.
We built our Garage Door Cable Repair service around Star, ID customers who need a specialist, not a generalist working outside their depth.
This specialization is why Star, ID customers call us back for the same issue instead of shopping around each time.
We check both cables and both drums together, since wear rarely happens in isolation.
Cable diameter and length get matched to your specific drum configuration.
Every job includes a post-repair tension and balance check.
A visibly fraying cable is treated as a near-term emergency.
Even a few loose strands mean a cable is close to failing under load — replacement cable gets sized to match your spring tension exactly.
A cable that's already snapped usually means the door dropped or hangs crooked — emergency replacement is stocked specifically because this can't wait.
A cable that's slipped off its drum causes uneven hanging — worn or cracked drums get replaced rather than reused.
Extension spring systems should run safety cables to prevent whip-back — we add these where missing.
The bracket anchoring the cable to the door corrodes over time — we repair or replace it as part of cable service.

If you notice either, call +1-866-597-3069 before the cable fails completely.
We treat snapped cable calls with the same urgency as a broken spring.
We don't recommend it — cables work under spring tension requiring proper tools.
They run through extension springs to contain them if the spring fails.
